Reid's future

Last night, I finally dreamed about Reid. Our wedding or our world tour honeymoon was not my dream.

It was about Reid as a new soap opera star.

Reid was cast as the leading man in All My Children. How the hell All My Children was showcased in my lala-land is anyone's guess, but there he was, brooding and smoldering and pining away for...you guessed it, Jillian, who guest-starred in this high quality drama.

Their interactions were set in a pool (again, why?) with too many polite overtures masking their desires.

Then Reid cannon-balled into the pool, the spray waking me up.

I'm behind on the Bachelor gossip, intermittently checking the board.

Perhaps Reid's been dubbed "The Bachelor", but if dreams hold any truth, then I've had a premonition.

  1. This scandal-infused season of "The Bachelorette" has made me wonder just how much truth there was in what we we saw.

It just begs the question: how much did the producers know about Ed? How much did they allow? How much did they even encourage?

Was it for shock value and publicity?

And why is the same Jillian, who said that coming on the show with a girlfriend was the rudest thing she could ever think of, making allowances for this man she's claiming to want to spend her life with?

But then if all publicity is good publicity, then why has ABC prevented viewers from watching this season's episodes online?

All bets are off, as far as I'm concerned. The show's credibility has been compromised. From now on, the so-called 'rules' mean nothing.

Not allowed to have contact with the outside world while you're a contestant on the show? Nonsense; that sort of thing goes on, with or without permission from the powers that be.

Not allowed to leave the show and come back? Ridiculous; it's been done.

Not allowed to have had a girlfriend on the outside just prior, during or just after the taping? Laughable; the last guy did it and went on to win.

I may be deluding myself but I sensed that with Reid, it was different. What we saw between him and Jillian seemed as real as anything.

But it's over. And I've got to believe that Reid has moved on and is not going to allow himself to be lured by the dose of narcissism, entitlement, fame and money that this show offers.

If he ends up the new Bachelor, however, I'll still watch him. As much to see his sparkle, wit and charm as to see which road Fleiss will choose to go down this time.

Leen, my dear, it's no coincidence that your dream presented this show as a scripted soap opera.

It's no coincidence that Reid's feelings were showcased.

And it's no coincidence that the "polite overtures" were blown out of the water with the resounding spash of a human cannonball.

  2. Marianna dear you summed it up perfectly and I can only echo how interesting Leen that you did set your dream on a soap opera set.

I am still in awe that we all found ourselves because of the Bachelorette and for that I am grateful the show existed even with all the "flaws" - we wouldn't be here today without it. Ok look at me being Mary Sunshine -- LOL

  3. M~

    Sigh.

Back in July when Jill stomped on Reid's little heart twice-TWICE-I was tore up (some Southern for ya...but then again anything an American says is Southern to you) for him. In light of the various leaks, the debacle called JED, and the very obvious manipulations of cast members and audience, I'm just not sure if I can extend any real compassion to anyone involved. I guess I wonder how much of Reid's role was staged.

Like everyone here, I do believe that he felt some kind of something (more Southern) for Jill. I'd like to hope that he did love her. I even believed that she cared/loved him, too. But, I'm starting to think that Jill is a better actress than we thought. I think she really wants an entertainment job. That's all she's done since the show wrapped.

My final thought: Reid, by his own agreement or under crazy manipulation per ABC, returned to the FRC for Jill with 100% certainty that their "love" would save the day. We all still smart with the memory of the outcome.

I'm glad, though, that ABC has tried to make recompense by accurately describing the show's intent. Maybe they're trying honesty on for size. Then they can say to the audience's disappointment, "Told you so."

  4. Marianna,

For me too the show has been compromised. I will no longer believe in its truth. In fact I find myself analyzing all reality shows now for bias. Ed having a girlfriend and Jillian's acceptance was just too much for me. Reid being tormented just sealed the deal as well. They pick people based on ratings, not sincerity. They only shadowed sincerity on "more to love" and that is because they didn't expect anyone to watch!

As always love hearing your synopsis

  5. All good points made, guys. I'm beginning to think that going on this show alters people.

You're right, Leeny-Lou. Jillian is forging ahead with her relationship with Ed because she has nowhere else to go if she doesn't want to admit defeat. She's hell-bent to make it work and she's secretly hoping to parlay her new-found fame into career opportunities -- with or without "Hollywood Ed", who has aspirations of his own.

    Sickening, really.

But I'll continue to watch, largely for the same reason I always watched: to analyze human behaviour (albeit, heavily-edited human behaviour). If I happen to see a potential love story that rings true, well, then that's a bonus. I'm just not going to count on that anymore.

Sceptical and Cynical about Fleissian approximations of love.

Forever hopeful that the real thing still exists outside of his twisted world.
