This is only the message board (Bach) I’ve joined for a TV show, though I’ve peeked in a couple of others when I watched a particular episode of a TV show I liked, but I never felt compelled to join one until this season of The Bachelorette. I was not a regular watcher of the show, but did see the first couple then became bored. It wasn’t until Deanna’s season that I started watching again, thanks mostly to an appearance by Deanna on The Ellen Show.
Okay, now about David and Reid. I watched American Idol from time to time but was never obsessed with the show, like counting down the days until it was being televised. That is at least not until Season 7 in 2008 when David Cook decided to audition for Idol. And what a turn that made in my life. At the end of the show when David won, I started searching the internet to find out more about him to see if I could find some fan websites. Well I found the “Wordnerd” and “david-cook.org” websites in July 2008. One day last July I came across a thread titled “Rockin’ Grandma’s Who Love David Cook” and that caught my eye. To make a long story short, approximately 50 women (and one man), along with a couple of husbands too, became members of this group. Last summer several of us decided to meet in Kansas City to see David perform in his home town with the Idol tour. Well of course we all hit it off!
Then David started his tour in February and our small group started to get much bigger, around 50 now. So David’s Declaration tour was making a stop again in his hometown, so 30 of us met up and we had a great time. So now you’re probably wondering where I’m going with this. (Didn’t I tell one of you that I wasn’t a very good writer??)
What drew all of us to David (and we’re not all grandmas, we range from late 20s to David’s granny who is 73) were the same characteristics that Reid has shown us. The only ones Reid does not have are his singing and performing talent. And I’m making that assumption of course. It’s their charm, their humor, their kindness, wearing their hearts on their sleeves, their smiles, their eyes, and I could go on and on. David is not afraid to show his emotions. My God he cried several times on national TV and wasn’t ashamed of it. Well, it was those same attributes that I saw in Reid, especially when he was with Jillian.
Now some of you may think I’m crazy, but I’ve thought about this for a while. And I’ve even discussed it with one of my very close RG (rockin’ grandma) friends. And she agrees since she also favored Reid over all the others.
I’ve got to go now, but I hope you found this comparison interesting. If you’ve never heard David or are not familiar with his music, check out his music and videos on this website:

PS - Now I just have to figure out how to change font, color, etc. but I'll do that next time. And thanks to whoever suggested writing this in Word first. I've lost connectivity three times today, so I'm very glad this was in word first.

One thing I forgot to mention about my little obsession with David. I've seen him 3 times so far this year and have 4 more concerts before the end of the year. But before you call me a groupie, let me tell you that some of the others have seen him as many as 20+ to 30+ times. Now that is obsessive.
ReplyDeleteI love it! I prefer ballad type music, so I loved David Archuleta youtube videos my daughter showed me but David Cook is certainly way talented. Since I didn't watch Idol, I don't have a feel for whether David and Reid are similar, but if you see those characteristics in David as well, then I'd say you're right on.
ReplyDeleteRegarding what makes groupie status, by any definition, we're all fast becoming each other's best fan club. So. totally. cool!
Thanks for sharing that, Sheri. I also liked David Cook on Idol (I watch it with my 13 year-old). It wasn't just his singing and his emotion that impressed me; I also loved his eloquence and his love of language.
ReplyDeleteI haven't really kept up with his career since Idol but I'm glad he has found success.

That is in no way obsessive. I do not watch AI very often. I think the last time I watched it was when Carrie Underwood won. I am aware of David Cook mostly in part from Ellen. He is extremely talented. More so I think than David Archuletta. But we have to keep that on the DL or my ten year old daughter might have me strung up.
ReplyDeletePersonally I am musically obsessing about Rob Thomas. I am just loving his new music. I almost said album, and realized those don't exist anymore. Is it still okay to say CD? I think IPods are going to make them obsolete soon.

A big hindrance to a Reid obsession is, ummm, when ABC deletes not only the episodes from the homepage, but all youtube video clips of the season. Yay, copyright.
ReplyDeleteFrom the message board, this procedure runs counter to previous seasons. Normally, the epis stay up on the homepage for at least a month. Even now, you can watch segments of the old Bachs on youtube.
Why is season different?
I might need Papa Jim to interject with "Remember: Occam's Razor, Leen." But, here's my theory.
If they are, indeed, courting Reid as the next Bachelor, they want to kill that love story as fast as possible. Why? Cuz the fans already seem torn between a man deeply in love with Jillian and a potential, courting-25-women charmer. If we re-watch the episodes, and the after the final rose, we'll be up in arms that the Bachelor is just a rebound for Reid.
Further support:
By withholding the announcement until September, three months would have passed since the FRC, one month since the ATFR in which he once again professes his love. The general viewing audience will forget that Reid had to give them an answer 1 week post ATFR. Unless, and I just thought of this, Reid either 1) asked to extend his decision deadline. Or, 2 )he said "no", sending them on a wild goose chase.
God, I hope it's the latter. If that's the case, they better give us back the darn videos of his sweet, sweet face ;)
Thanks so much Sheri for sharing this. The idea of actually meeting all of you is so wonderful! Just to think one week ago... I would never have imagined it possible that I would be here.
ReplyDeleteNow I picture us on a group date in Vancouver, meeting over our own cocktail concoction the Green Mankini. We could have a contest for the winning recipe. The only mandatory ingredient being Foot of Bird.
Then we can all board the Rocky Mountain Express and really reveal our Reidy romantic ramblings on the rails. With frequent stops to do laundry. I am packing my panties already!
