Ok my romantic friends - its a hot afternoon on the west coast my husband is working and I have visited my mom so I indulged in some TV time. Had to say I have seen this movie before but because of this past week had to rewatch again.
Fool's Rush In was from the late 1990's and starred (drum roll) Reid -I mean Matthew Perry and Selma Hayak. Its silly and sweet and I have to admit there are scenes of Reid -- sorry -- Matthew that smacks of some of what we saw last week on "reality tv".
I was discussing with my darling husband this morning about our favourite Love Stories. I must take some time and compile my complete list. Its just that at my grand old age the memory cards are getting full and I forget some movies as others take their place. Just to start with three of my favourite love stories the oldest would be African Queen, an obscure one is Truly, Madly, Deeply (as a widow I loved seeing that movie) and the latest for pure fun is Love Actually.
I think at some point I would love to see everyone post their list - something to think about. I will think more about mine and post later.
Now for a colour - this Libran is also indescisive.

Hi Joanne and all,
ReplyDeleteI've finally had a little time to do some catching up here and have made a post way back on What Went Wrong, in reply to some of the brilliant observations there.
It's also unusually hot hear in Calgary and of course, not many of us have air conditioning. I usually go to Mexico for this kind of weather. Where is the pooI? and more importantly, the pool-boy with my pina colada?
I am heading down to my basement where it's lovely and cool to watch a movie. Thanks to Jim, I have managed to find a copy of Lost in Austen and can't wait to indulge!
Great idea about creating a list of favorites. Books could be done too. Perhaps people could just list them on their profile pages? and then it'd be easy to find when you are looking for some inspiration.
I'll check in later and let you know how my small, redneck, Alberta pea brain enjoys the movie!! :) Love Ric Mercer!! I just wonder if Americans would actually get it - no offense intended. It's just that the whole joke of the show is that they don't get it. Know what I mean?
Ann
Ann you are so cool -- ok not with the weather, but you know what I mean. Sorry that Calgary is as bad as we are -- ok my dear husband is watching Stampeders right now -- are you there why aren't you waving?
ReplyDeleteWell I'm sure I have you beat on the thermometer with 110 today, but again I live in Arizona, so that's no surprise.
ReplyDeleteI love romantic comedies and because of several posters suggesting The Ugly Truth, I went to see it with my friend today. It was really good and very, very funny. Parts might even make you blush, so be forewarned if you decide to see it. Now my favorite romance movies (love stories and romantic comedies):
Pretty Woman
Runaway Bride
Notting Hill (yes, I love Julia Roberts)
Sleepless In Seattle
You've Got Mail
Love Actually
Two Weeks Notice
Gone With The Wind
Sabrina (original and remake)
Roman Holiday
Breakfast at Tiffany's
I'm sure there are others that I can't think of but these are in my DVD collection.
Have a nice evening everyone!
Sheri

Oh my!
ReplyDeleteA list? in one little comment box? I'll have to think some more about my faves, and add some more here in another day or two. (By the way Ann, I love your suggestion of everyone filling in their profile with all this info...I'll try to do that in the next couple of days.)But for now:
I agree: For new movies, Love Actually is absolutely roll in the aisles funny , and sad and sweet, too...but my favorite new romance in the last 5 years is, hands down, Keira Knightley's Pride and Prejudice. I think I would even put it on my top 10 of all time: a perfect story, perfectly filmed and acted. (Although, if we're talking TV shows...my favorite there, is Colin Firth as Darcy in BBC's P&P...I get goosebumps just thinking about it...but then that's just the effect Colin has on me anytime LOL)
I adore Casablanca (my fave film of all time), Roman Holiday, Gigi, Singin' in the Rain, Funny Girl, & Pillow Talk. AND absolutely anything with Cary Grant, Katherine Hepburn, and my favorite Reid-type, Jimmy Stewart (oh, be still, my heart; when I see him now, I am so reminded of my own sweet Jimmy). So you can well imagine that my 2nd favorite movie is Philadelphia, starring all three.
OK...there's much, much more, but later :-)
Mr. Darcy. Sigh.
ReplyDeleteI never got around to putting together a list of romantic movies I like. We may need to revisit this so that others will remember to contribute. We have no way to "bump" threads!
ReplyDeleteMy all-time favorite movie: Casablanca. The most perfect, the most quotable movie.
My favorite romantic movie: Shakespeare in Love. I wish I could write a script like that!
The most beautifully romantic movie: Pride and Prejudice. The dance scene! Darcy coming in through the fog! Keira Knightly at her best!
The most convincing romance: To Have and to Have Not. You get to watch the real-life romance of Bogart and Bacall blossom onscreen.
The wittiest romance: Bridget Jones' Diary. Every time I see it, it makes me laugh.
The classic modern romance: When Harry Met Sally. This is still held up as the gold standard of standard Hollywood romances.
There are many others. I detailed list would take me a while.
Jim
Nadya - Profile? Is there one on this site? If so I haven't seen where to complete it. Of course, I've been known to not see what is right in front of me LOL.
ReplyDeleteHi Sheri,
ReplyDeleteI can answer your question. First sign in (top right) if you haven't already done so. Click on your name. There should be a big blue Edit Profile button in the left column. Click that and you get a page where you can add a picture, set your privacy options and enter whatever personal information you would like. Most of us, including me, haven't added any detail yet. Let me know if you have any questions.
Nadya reminded me of another favorite movie that I should have added to my list. It's not usually considered a romantic comedy. That movie would be Say Anything. I think it's one of the best teen love comedies and it has some of the more powerful breakup scenes.
