I'm a Cancer, ruled by the moon. I am always a little edgy on full moons. I may have to make a late night dash down to the Bend N Fold for a $1 jugotini to take that edge off! while keeping my clothes on!
If you enjoy astrology, here's a link about this particular full moon.
http://www.californiapsychics.com/articles/Newsletter/3604/Lunar_Eclipse_In_Aquarius.aspx
I found it with my new iGoogle homepage - Thanks to Jim! It took me a few tries I admit, but I finally got it working and can now easily keep up with new comments. Yeah!
Anyone else affected by the Lunar tides? Have you noticed any influence in your lives? What, if anything does it mean to you?
Ann
Ann,
ReplyDeleteI love astrology so THANK YOU! I definitely do notice changes related to the moon. I read your link and it is very accurate for me anyway! The full moon is today and its funny but lately I have really been feeling stuck in my job, even though it is has been really busy and in reality there is a potential for something great to happen. I was so optimistic then BOOM the last few days it went away. And my sign, Taurus, says to balance work and play. I have been going gung ho with work for awhile so very much made sense! (I love that this is not the BB and I can write ho in a non derogatory way!)
The moon is so cool!
Just yesterday morning I read my horoscope for the day before and it warned me to NOT get involved with "bad" people. Too bad I didn't read it the morning of - I started a fight for right but with the wrong person. Ackkk the people we have to share this planet with.
ReplyDeleteI am very much conscious of the moon's comings and goings.
Wow even AFTER I read this I still flew off the handle today at work. LOL. I was walking home fuming and then I was like... wait... moon influences. It didn't matter, I was still pissed BUT at least I am trying to channel my frustration positively.
ReplyDeleteGlad you enjoyed the Eclipse article. I have enjoyed astrology for many years and done some reading. I am no astrologer, but I have a couple of friends who are quite well versed and often share amazing insights.
ReplyDeleteI find the characteristics of the sun signs very accurate, in a broad sense. Over the years, I have developed an instant connotation of those characteristics when I learn someone's sign, as some of you have evidenced with the Libra decision making syndrome.
Of course, I've applied those connotations to my online dating and I haven't been far off to this point. Oh great, another bias I have included in my idea of who my 'type' is! I cringe at Aries men. No offense to any Aries, they're just not for me.
So I find the sun signs useful but, the prediction part of horoscopes is harder to interpret. The more I learn about the planets and their changing positions, the more convinced I am that there is something to this 'art'.
Tomorrow I have a job interview. I have been struggling to find work for too long now and I really need to find something asap. I went to the business yesterday and dropped off a resume in response to a recent ad. I purposely went in person, rather than sending it electronically, so that I could check them out and hoping to make more of an impression than just my resume could offer. (Not because I think I'm stunning or anything, but hoping that a face with a name is more meaningful and memorable). So I meet the manager and she has just finished setting up interviews and asks me if I'd like to come talk to her on Friday. YIPEE!
So I am looking to horoscopes to see if it looks like this might be the One! (The Job, not The Man for a change). Full moons alway seem significant to me and this one seems to point to a change, but in an "old relationship".
Part 2, sigh
ReplyDeleteThere is another aspect to this job interview that is complicated to explain. It involves my high school boyfriend (first love). Somehow or other we have managed to stay in touch all these years (+35), although I rarely see him. He lives near, but travels extensively and our relationship consists primarily of sporadic phone chats. It happens that he is very good pals with the owner of this furniture store where I am applying. The store is a subsidiary of a development/builder company and his buddy would not likely have much to do with the store side - other than he owns it!
Over the years, my old friend has become very successful and wealthy. Let's say he's 'well connected'. He has often told me "You're my best friend and I'd do anything for you." However, he makes no time in his life to actually spend time with me. I have never asked him for financial help, even when I really could have used it. Unlike most other people around him, who don't hesitate to go to him for all kinds of favors.
I have purposely not contacted him for a few months now, as talking to him usually just ends with me feeling not good about myself or annoyed with him. No big deal, this has been going on for 35 years and we have had many long periods of no contact.
But I REALLY need a job and if he can help give me an edge by speaking to his friend, can I afford not to ask him that favor? I would prefer to get the job on my own merits and I don't expect he can actually influence things enough to guarantee me the job, but he might help tip the scales in my favor. After much soul searching, I decided that all I really had to loose was my pride (which he'll never get anyway), and I called and left a message asking him to call me.
He called back within the hour, having just touched down in Phoenix. He has a vacation home (mansion) there and guess who's coming down for the weekend? The guy I hoped he could put in a good word with! He was literally deplaning during the call, so I quickly got to the point and explained the situation. Before I had to ask, he offered to speak to him. I said "any help would be appreciated". He said, "Honey, I'll do the best I can" and had to go. He's supposed to call me back but who knows when that will be, or if he even will. He's reliable for being unreliable, if you know what I mean.
Here's what that full moon forecast had to say for Cancers:
Cancer will let go of some old relationship hurts, and find that when they are fully present, life is filled with love and support.
So it will be interesting to see what comes of this opportunity. Will I get a job? Will it have anything to do with him?
Ah, look! The sun is peeping thru the clouds for the first time in 3 days here! I'm taking that as a good sign!
Here's a couple more sites I enjoy for horoscopes. Heidi, you might like the UK one. He often references things that are happening there and has a bit of a different perspective. Also I love the illustrations he has on his site.

ReplyDeleteYou are in my thoughts and I will stay very positive for you. And I hope your friend does come through for you, but who knows, maybe you'll end up getting the job without his help at all. (My fingers and toes will be crossed for you too.)
sheri,
ReplyDeletethank you. I am truly touched that you would think of me. I read your post on another thread and am so honored to get to know you. Look forward to more of your wisdom
Ann
Ann,
ReplyDeleteI have to tell you that I am a Leo with an Aquarius moon(I had my chart done awhile ago), and this full moon is really doing a number on me. My daughter is an Aquarius. She has been horribly moody too. Thank you for posting this because I thought I was losing my mind, or going through the change. Now I understand why I have turned into "Psycho Mom". Thanks and now I need to go take some deep breaths. Have a good weekend.
Melanie
Ann,
ReplyDeleteGood luck on the job! I think any slight nudging works! I'm sure they will love you regardless. Sparked by this thread I agreed to a tarot reading tonight. LOL
I actually put a lot of stock in how a persons sun sign will dictate how I romantically get along with them. I have a tough time with Aries (too alpha male) typically. However I do take into account I am an Aquarius moon so that changes me, and also I think your Chinese sign has an influence.
K-
ReplyDeleteGood luck with the tarot reading. My husband is an Aries. You are right the can be very alpha male. But they can also be really fun too. I found out my sister in law isn't at MIT, but at Harvard. I hope all is well with you.
Hugs,
HCM

Hello all,
ReplyDeleteI'm afraid I'm really cynical about astrology, spiritualism, tarot cards, palm-reading, auras and religion. I'm open to hearing how others have lived their lives in accordance; I just don't follow it for myself.
What I do believe in is the power of human emotion and the forces of good which can prevail over evil and suffering in the world.
I also believe that each person is too much of an individual to have his or her personality or actions mapped out by something as general as astrology. For example, I am a Virgo but I can see that not all Virgos share the same traits.
I would be interested in hearing what you all have to say to an old cynic like me -- heh heh.
M.
Mariana,
ReplyDeleteThanks for your response. It proves once again, that we have a safe place to be ourselves here.
I don't think you are cynical at all. I don't live my life in accordance to any prescribed or organized theology either. I guess if I had to state what I prescribe to, I would quote Nadya in our early days - "love, love, love".
I wholeheartedly concur with your belief in the power of human emotion and it's power to triumph.
For me, astrology is a useful tool in understanding myself and others and the world at large. It gives me a language of sorts (a set of symbols) that allows me to explore my self and my physical and spiritual situation in terms that I might not consider alone. I don't 'believe' in it like a religion and would never base a decision or action on it solely.
I understand why you think that astrology is too general to describe an individual. It doesn't purport to. Each person's chart is unique and their sun sign is only the most broad description of characteristics they posess. The theory is that as a Virgo, you may have many of the traits common to people born under that sign, but also that you are unique and your chart will be influenced by the placement of all the other planets and their alignment at the time and place of your birth. This is why people refer to their moon sign, rising sign etc. We all have the same human traits, but emphasized to varying degrees. Chart reading is part science - the astronomy part, and part art - the interpretative part. Humans have been interpreting these 'signs' for as long as there are written records.
I think people are drawn to astrology and other forms of divination, for similar reasons they are drawn to self-help books, counsellors, ministers, gurus etc. It is part of our primal need to answer the big questions: Why am I here? What am I supposed to be doing in this life? How can I make this world a better place for not only myself, but for all?
When we interpret the alignment of the planets and stars, or lay out cards in a tarot reading, we explore our lives and our relationships using a common language that allows us to consider possibilities and apply them to our situations. By no means does it negate our free will to act as we see best and according to our values.
Again, I do go on...
ReplyDeleteI'll try to give you an example: If I read a monthly horoscope prediction that says I might experience health issues during a certain timeframe, I can choose my reaction. I could ignore it and wait to see if that turned out to be the case, I could take precautions (take better care of myself for instance) or internalize this to be the outcome, go out and purchase tissues and cough syrup and wait to get sick. The point is, it makes me think about how I care for myself. No harm in that.
I am so grateful to have this space to explore my thoughts and feelings with such a diverse and open-minded group of individuals. When I posted my questions about full moons, I was asking to see if anyone was fluent in the language of the art of astrology. Not much different than asking who likes Mad Men? I already know that you are all fluent in the language of love.
I would never try to 'convert' or convince anyone that I have all the answers or judge anyone for differing opinions. (Ok, I do think some folks on the BB are nasty) I see openness growing on this blog every day and am amazed that it has happened due to mass media broadcasting and the connectivity the internet has provided.
In conclusion, all I can say is that the world is getting smaller day by day and hopefully we are growing closer to understanding that we are all more alike than not.
Ann
I guess you can put me on the fence about astrology, tarot etc etc. I can recognize traits in someone and pretty much (being extremely general) identify what sign they are - now that said I am only really familiar with half the signs. Being a Libra myself I can recognize certain traits amongst my other Libra friends. I grew up with two Virgos and they were both textbook Virgos (my mom and brother). My first husband was a Leo and was a true true Leo - so much so that when I was expecting our son I was told he was going to be a Leo - I kept my legs crossed for two weeks and popped out my Virgo baby - but he is nothing like my mom or brother. I have my own theory about cusp babies - they get the best of both their signs.
ReplyDeleteMy first and only experience with a tarot card reader was in New Orleans several months after I was widowed. It just felt like a fun thing to do in the shadows of St Peter's Cathedral. When she opened by telling me I was going through a rough spot in my marriage but it would get better soon all I could do was laugh. Once she finished I told her why I laughed -- she then became advisor rather than reader and I liked that. She recommended I read The Eagle and The Rose and I admit it changed a lot of my thinking. Several months later I had a phone reading with a very well known psychic. She told me a couple of things that there is no way on this planet she could guess. She was even frustrated because she couldn't really get anything -- she wanted to stop and talk another time (for no charge). Finally just before we hung up she blurted out "you changed your wedding ring" -- and just a few months before my husband went into the hospital I had changed my ring - had it redesigned (I still wear it). There were a few other things but that rather stunned me.
Yes Ann openess and respect is important -- of course as with all humans we will not always agree but it doesn't change my respect for anyone's opinion. Just had that discussion the other day with one of my favourite instructors. We were on total opposite sides of an issue - he argued his side - I argued mine and we both agreed to disagree.
Joanne
Hi Ann, Joanne and everyone else,
ReplyDeleteYes, like you, I celebrate the diversity of the lovely people who have clustered around this warm and wonderful blog and I thank Nadya once again for taking the initiative to set it all up for us. Just imagine if she hadn't: we would never have been able to have these kinds of conversations on the Bach Board!
I am open to all kinds of ideas. I love stimulating discussions and the exchange of interesting ideas. That is why I love teaching (French) Literature -- it is so rewarding for me to see young people start thinking about their lives and the world around them and questioning their existence and the role they may play in this world.
I completely agree with you, dear Ann, that man needs to explain his existence and his purpose and to feed his spiritual self.
Interestingly enough, I have been told by those who subscribe to the study of astrology that I am much more like a Leo than a typical Virgo -- not sure what that means. I was born Aug 27, (196o)so I think I am close to the dividing mark between Leo and Virgo.
I have never consulted a psychic, Joanne, but have friends who have told me that psychics have told them stuff about their lives which they could never possibly have known. This is an area which remains a mystery to me. But why don't all psychics buy winning lottery tickets, then?
More later, friends.

Hello all,
ReplyDeleteI finally can catch up a little on postings. I don't spend much time thinking about astrology but I thought I would chime in all the same. I am the strange sort of skeptic, one that is skeptical of skepticism. I don't feel much kinship with many who call themselves skeptics but are ultimately absolutists. Scientists who claim that there are no forms of the supernatural are not speaking from skepticism. That is a statement of faith. I question anyone who claims that their belief system negates all others, whether from a religious or a nonreligious standpoint.
On the other hand, I don't hold that all popular beliefs are equally valid. I believe that there is a higher meaning apart from human existence. Since there is so much contradiction among the many ways of thinking about higher meaning, some belief systems must be off the mark. Consequently, some belief systems must be closer to the truth unless all are equally untrue.
When it comes to systems such as astrology, I need a lot more convincing than I've seen so far. I don't dismiss it outright either. Perhaps it is valuable to help people understand themselves. One problem I've had with it is that it can become a form of prejudice. When certain people discover that my sun sign is Scorpio, they assume several things about me that simple don't apply. It's similar to when people discover that I grew up in Southern California and they assume I am shallow and obsessed with appearances.
We will agree and disagree on many things. That much is inevitable, although I think we have much more on the side of agreement on the whole. I'm glad that we can disagree and hold no less respect for one another and that neither party of a disagreement feels the need to convert the other.
Jim
That last post was excellent, Jim! Very well said and I wholeheartedly agree!
ReplyDeleteHow interesting it must be to have you in discussion over the course of an evening, on the other side of a dining table!
Maybe that day will come soon.
M.
OK, Folks,
ReplyDeleteI finally found the time this evening to read through this post and comments. Wow! What interesting comments! I have to say that I am very much a Virgo in many ways: organized, competent, a perfectionist, and at times obsessive about things being done "right". I have all those "too-perfect" teacher attributes, which is one reason I became one. (I truly sympathisized with poor Jake; it is absolutely horrible to have too-perfect be one's curse.LOL)
But I have a moon in Gemini which gave me attributes of much more cerebral thought (thinking for the sake of thinking lol), a lightness of spirit, a yearning for fun and games, and a certain fickleness when it came to the opposite sex (I learned to temper those particular impulses using my Rising strengths). My Rising is in Cancer, which rules hearth and home. That translates into my being a homebody, who needs to live in secure, loving surroundings, with a sense of calm.
I see very clearly how all the different pieces of my astrological puzzle have combined to create the foundation from which I have grown. Your astrological chart does not determine who you are or who you become. You have free will to make your own choices.
All signs have an equal list of negative and positive traits which are the flip sides of each other. Which traits will take precedence in you is determined by some combination of environment, heredity, and your own choices. As one gets older, the strongest of these is the choices one makes to learn how to develop the positive sides of all those two-sided coins. It is like being given a hand to play in Bridge; the cards (astrological chart) are handed to you at the start (of life) but how you play them, is up to you.
I studied astrology for many, many years and learned to set charts among other things. I was living in the middle east for 13 years with my ex, and had the time to explore all kinds of interests. This was one that fascinated me, and which, fortunately, he had no objection to. I learned why all those magazine and newspaper horoscopes never applied to me, and why predictive astrology is very unpredictable at the best of times. What we are exposed to in popular culture is, unfortunately, nonsense and it has given astrology a bad name.
Ann, I agree with you totally, that astrology is a tool that if used intelligently with all information available to one, can help to guide one. It teaches where the weaknesses are inside of us (including those that we may not even have been able to see or to put into words), and what their corresponding strengths are that can be developed instead. It is a very powerful tool for self-realization, and psychological/emotional balance if used the right way.
As you said, in its most prevalent western form, it is not, nor does it claim to be a belief system or religion, but simply another tool in our toolbox to help us manage our life's experiences and personal growth as well as we can.
On the other hand, I have learned only too well that many people look at this with a great deal of cynicism, at best, including my dear Jim. The topic rarely comes up in our home; we have agreed to disagree on this one. So, I am joyful that here in this forum, we can all have this discussion as well, and know that we can speak with safe hearts and open minds.
Hugs,
Nadya
Nadya,
ReplyDeleteWith each comment I read from you, I feel we are more and more alike. Except you are a better writer than I!
Oh how I would love to sit down and have a conversation with you (and Jim) about astrology and so many other things.
I am a Cancer, with Cancer rising, Moon in Libra. Born on the cusp of Leo.
I am off to watch Mad Men some more but will be in touch soon.
Ann
